2024 North Wales Show Results & Sale Report

By Paul McAvoy

The North Wales Sale Report
9th September 2024
Gaerwen Auction Centre, Isle of Anglesey
Judge : Mr J Jeyes, Warwickshire

This show & sale continues to move forward, with each successive year being an improvement on the one before. It is usual to see a very high percentage clearance rate on Anglesey but this year saw more members entering and a healthy increase in the number of females to be judged and sold.

Supreme and Male Champion was awarded to Dafydd Thomas (Rhos Flock) Ram Lamb Lot 33 ‘Rhos Norman’ sired by Brockhall Tornado which went on to sell for 440gns to Messrs Thomas a young farmer on Anglesey. Female Champion was from Morris Family (Hoggeston Flock) with Shearling Ewe Lot 6 sired by Celyn Xeno selling for 320gns to Messrs Hughes a lamb producer on the Island..

First prize ewe lamb went to A V & J W Brigg (Gorse Flock), sold for 190gns. There was a strong consignment of sixteen shearling ewes from the Morris Family, two of which sold for 360gns each. Three aged ewes present from R Owen (Trefri Flock) with Lot 32 achieving 300gns.

The prize for ‘Group of 3 Ram Lambs’ went to William Roberts (Nant Flock). There were eight rams born 2023 or earlier forward, with 2 achieving 420gns; from William Roberts (Nant Flock) Lot 38 and from G Parry (Mynydd Flock) Lot 45.

Thanks are due to all our vendors and buyers, as well as to the judge, Jonathan Jeyes, the auctioneer Geraint Evans and to all the staff at Gaerwen Auction Centre.

About the Wiltshire Horn Sheep Society

The Wiltshire Horn Sheep Society exists to promote, preserve and improve the Wiltshire Horn breed, to define the breed standard and record pedigrees. It came into being on the 13th January 1923, when 40 farmers and breeders met in the Grand Hotel, Northampton to put the  breed onto “sound pedigree lines”. The meeting concluded with the establishment of  the “Wiltshire or Western Horn Sheep Breeders Association”, together with the flock book, a constitution and a managing council. 22 attendees joined on the spot and paid their first annual subscription: 1 guinea ! Today the Society organises … Read More
